Storage Brimsdown Health and Safety Policy
Storage Brimsdown is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, customers, contractors and visitors. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety in all storage and removal activities, including handling, transporting and storing goods for domestic and business clients.
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, accidents and near misses by identifying hazards, assessing risks and applying appropriate control measures. Health and safety is an integral part of our business planning and operational decision making.
Policy Aims and Scope
This policy applies to all Storage Brimsdown operations, including warehousing, storage, removals, packing, loading, transport and associated office-based work. It covers permanent and temporary staff, agency workers, contractors and any other person who may be affected by our activities.
Our aims are to provide safe systems of work, safe handling and use of materials and equipment, and clear information, instruction, training and supervision so that work can be carried out safely and responsibly.
Management Responsibilities
The senior management of Storage Brimsdown has overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. Management will provide adequate resources, including time, personnel, equipment and training, to ensure that health and safety standards are met or exceeded.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for day-to-day health and safety within their areas of control. This includes ensuring risk assessments are completed, safe working procedures are followed, and that any defects or hazards are reported and addressed promptly.
Management will review this policy at regular intervals, and whenever there are significant changes in operations or legislation, to ensure that it remains current and effective.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must follow safety instructions, use equipment correctly, and cooperate fully with Storage Brimsdown in fulfilling legal and policy requirements.
Employees are expected to report hazards, unsafe practices, accidents, near misses and any concerns about health and safety to their manager or supervisor without delay. No employee will be disadvantaged for raising genuine health and safety concerns.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Storage Brimsdown carries out risk assessments for key activities, including lifting and handling of furniture and goods, operation of vehicles, use of mechanical handling equipment and working in storage areas. The findings of these assessments are used to create safe systems of work.
Safe procedures are communicated to staff and reinforced through supervision and training. Where required, control measures such as personal protective equipment, guarding, signage, traffic management and load securing systems will be implemented and monitored for effectiveness.
Manual Handling and Lifting Operations
As a storage and removal service provider, manual handling and lifting tasks are central to our operations. Storage Brimsdown is committed to minimising the risk of injury from these activities.
Where practicable, mechanical aids such as trolleys, sack trucks, pallet trucks and lifting equipment will be used to reduce manual effort. Loads will be assessed for weight, size and stability before handling, and work will be planned to avoid awkward or unsafe lifting positions.
Employees will receive manual handling training that covers correct lifting techniques, team handling, load assessment and recognition of personal limitations. No employee is required to lift or carry any load that they reasonably believe to be unsafe.
Vehicles, Driving and Transport Safety
Storage Brimsdown will ensure that all vehicles used for removals and transport are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. Drivers must hold the appropriate licences and follow company guidelines on safe driving, loading and unloading.
Loads will be packed, stacked and secured to prevent movement, damage or spillage during transit. Access routes, loading bays and parking areas under our control will be kept clear, well organised and managed to minimise the risk of collision or injury to pedestrians.
Warehouse and Storage Area Safety
All storage areas will be organised and maintained to promote safe access, good housekeeping and clear walkways. Racking and storage systems will be installed, inspected and used in accordance with manufacturer guidance and relevant standards.
Items will be stacked safely, with heavier and bulkier goods stored at appropriate heights to reduce the risk of falling objects and manual handling injuries. Lighting, ventilation and emergency exits will be maintained and kept unobstructed at all times.
Work Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment
All equipment used in storage and removal operations will be suitable for its intended purpose, properly maintained and inspected at appropriate intervals. Employees will be trained in the safe use of any equipment they are required to operate.
Where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means, suitable personal protective equipment such as safety footwear, gloves or high-visibility clothing will be provided and must be used as instructed. Employees are responsible for taking care of issued equipment and reporting any defects immediately.
Training, Information and Supervision
Storage Brimsdown provides health and safety induction for all new employees, followed by task-specific training relevant to their role. Refresher training is given where necessary, particularly when introducing new equipment, procedures or services.
Instructions regarding safe working methods will be clear, practical and accessible. Supervisors will monitor compliance with these methods and provide guidance and correction where needed.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, injuries, near misses and property damage events must be reported in accordance with company procedures. Storage Brimsdown will investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures, including fire evacuation, first aid arrangements and incident response, will be established and communicated to staff. Fire exits, alarms and emergency equipment will be maintained and tested regularly. Designated staff will receive appropriate first aid and fire safety training.
Health, Welfare and Wellbeing
Storage Brimsdown recognises that good health and wellbeing support safe and reliable performance. We will, as far as reasonably practicable, provide adequate welfare facilities, including rest areas, washing and sanitation, and access to drinking water.
We will take into account the physical demands of storage and removal work when planning schedules and tasks, and we will consider adjustment of duties where an employee reports a health concern that may affect their ability to perform certain activities safely.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We encourage open communication and consultation on health and safety matters. Employees will be informed about relevant changes and are invited to contribute ideas for improving safety performance and working conditions.
Storage Brimsdown is committed to continual improvement in health and safety management. Performance will be monitored through inspections, incident reviews and feedback, with actions taken to improve policies, procedures and training as needed.
This Health and Safety Policy reflects the commitment of Storage Brimsdown to protect people, property and the environment in every aspect of our storage and removal services.
